Hue - Day 1: To Hue by Train

Train trip ended up being 16 hours long. While Nicole was miserable, Joe managed to make some Vietnamese friends. Arrived in Hue with no hotel booked but quickly found a place that is by far the nicest hotel so far, and for only $15 per night. Best of all, breakfast is included and the banana pancakes are amazing (rice mashed to a pulp and formed into a patty, battered and deep fried with carmelized bananas on top and slathered in honey). We spent the first day in Hue exploring the city. Beautiful architecture as well as many pagodas and temples scattered throughout the streets. We wandered around some "neighbourhoods" where there were no other tourists and rubbed elbows with some locals. Amazing how differently people live in Vietnam compared to home; very spartan. First meal in Hue was up to expectations as we ate at a local spot recommended by a cleaning lady in our hotel. Very subtle in flavour, but expertly executed. More Hue updates will follow, but so far so good.

By for now
